this wooden display shelf is about thirty years old. my father made it when i was a child, and it hung on the wall of my bedroom for quite a long time. i had forgotten about it, but i remembered about a year ago, when i started seeing similar shelves here and there in the internet; it seemed to be a trend! so i asked my mother where was mine, and she told me she probably threw it away years ago. i got angry, especially because it was handmade by my father, but it didn't surprise me a lot: my mother is the kind of person who throws away everything that's not being used anymore, while i'm more of a "hoarder", at least i would be if i had some space to hoard up things.
so i forgot about the little shelf until last week, when i entered my parents house and it was there in the hallway, waiting for me. my mother had not thrown it away, and she found it while deep cleaning the storage room (i don't want to know what she has thrown away this time...).
this poor little house shelf is in bad conditions, the wood is not looking good, so before hanging it on my wall again (i can't wait!) i have to fix it, but, how? i don't know what to do with it, should i paint it? try to restore the wood? or put some paper on it?... what would you do? here are some examples i found on the internet...
